Implant restorations
Dental implants offer a permanent, secure, and natural-looking treatment option to replace missing teeth for patients across Stittsville, Kanata, and West Ottawa. They are often preferred over traditional bridges because they protect your surrounding healthy teeth and preserve your long-term jawbone health.

The finishing touch for your dental implant
A dental implant is a small titanium post surgically placed in the jaw to act as an artificial root for a missing tooth. Once the implant has fully healed and fused with your jawbone, it is ready to be restored.
At Luminara Dental, we handle the final, most visible step of this process. We design and place a custom dental crown (the restoration) that attaches securely to your implant. This provides a fully functional, highly aesthetic tooth that allows you to smile, speak, and chew with complete confidence.
Why choose an implant-supported restoration?
Replacing an extracted or missing tooth with an implant restoration provides functional and structural benefits that other dental prosthetics cannot match:
- Preserves jawbone density: The titanium implant acts like a natural root, stimulating the jawbone to prevent the bone loss and facial sagging that occurs when teeth are missing.
- Protects adjacent teeth: Unlike dental bridges, which require filing down neighboring healthy enamel to hold the prosthetic in place, implant restorations are entirely self-supporting.
- Natural aesthetics: Your custom crown is shade-matched and shaped to blend seamlessly with your natural teeth.
- Long-term durability: With proper oral hygiene, the titanium implant can last a lifetime, while the high-quality restoration is built to withstand daily wear for years.
Collaborative care in Stittsville and West Ottawa
We believe in a team-based approach to your dental care. We refer our patients to trusted local specialists—such as oral surgeons or periodontists in the Stittsville, Kanata, and Richmond areas—for the precise surgical placement of the implant post.
While you heal, we coordinate the restorative phase behind the scenes. Once your specialist confirms the implant is stable, you return to our Stittsville Main Street clinic to complete your smile.
The restoration process: Step-by-step
Getting your final implant crown is a straightforward and comfortable milestone:
- Digital Impressions: We take precise measurements of your mouth and match the shade of your new tooth to your surrounding enamel.
- Custom Fabrication: Your specifications are sent to a specialized dental laboratory where technicians craft your crown using durable, high-quality materials.
- The Fitting Visit: You return to our office so we can test the crown on the implant, meticulously checking the physical fit, your bite alignment, and the aesthetic appearance.
- Final Placement: Once everything is perfectly aligned, we securely attach the restoration.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Does it hurt to get an implant restoration?
No. The restorative phase at our clinic is non-surgical. Because the implant has already healed and fused to the bone, placing the crown is typically completely painless and rarely requires local anesthesia.
How do I care for my new implant crown?
While the implant itself cannot get cavities, the surrounding gum tissue is still vulnerable to periodontal disease. You should brush twice a day, floss daily to remove plaque from the gum line, and maintain your regular hygierne recall appointments to ensure the surrounding tissue remains healthy.
How long does an implant restoration last?
The titanium implant post can last a lifetime. The custom crown attached to it usually lasts between 10 to 15 years, or even longer, depending on your oral hygiene habits and whether you wear a nightguard to protect against teeth grinding.

Asked and answered.
The things people ask on the phone before they book — written out properly, so you don't have to ask them.
Are you accepting new patients?
Yes — new patients of every age are welcome, and we're taking bookings now. Call (613) 836-1333 or email the office and we'll find you a time, usually within the same week.
What should I bring to my first visit?
- Your insurance details, if you have coverage
- A list of any medications and supplements you take
- Recent x-rays from a previous dentist, if you can get them sent over
- Anything you've been worrying about, written down — people forget once they're in the chair
If you don't have any of it, come anyway. We'll sort it out from here.
How long does a first appointment take?
Plan for about an hour. That covers a full exam, any x-rays we need, a periodontal check, an oral cancer screening, and time to actually talk through what we found. If a cleaning fits the same day, we'll do it — otherwise we'll book it close by.
Do you see children?
We do, and we're glad to book families together. A first visit for a young child is short and mostly about them getting comfortable in the room — counting teeth, looking at the tools, sitting in the chair. Nothing happens that we haven't explained to them first.
Do you accept my insurance?
We accept most traditional insurance plans — call the office and we'll confirm yours specifically. Our staff verifies your coverage, submits pre-estimates where it's useful to know the number in advance, and files your claims so you're reimbursed. One thing worth understanding: your policy is a contract between you and your insurer, not between us and them. We'll do everything we can to maximise what you get back, but the terms are theirs.
Will I know the cost before treatment starts?
Always. You get the options and the costs in writing, with your insurance portion estimated, before anything begins. If we find something unexpected mid-treatment, we stop and talk to you rather than carrying on and adding it to the bill.
How can I pay?
Cheque, cash, or major credit cards. You can also call the office to make a payment or to talk through your options if the timing is difficult — it's a conversation we have often and there's no awkwardness in it.
What if I have no insurance at all?
You're just as welcome. We'll give you the full cost up front and, where there's more than one clinically sound way to treat something, we'll tell you what each one costs and let you decide. Plenty of our patients pay out of pocket.
