Dentures and partials

Restore your confident smile and natural chewing ability with custom-crafted dentures and partials. We offer comfortable, natural-looking, and secure removable prosthetics for patients in Stittsville, Kanata, and the Ottawa Valley who are missing several or all of their teeth.

Restore your smile and your confidence

Missing multiple teeth can make eating difficult, alter your speech, and change the natural shape of your face. Dentures and partials are time-tested, non-invasive, and highly customizable solutions to replace missing teeth and restore your overall quality of life. At Luminara Dental, we design comfortable, natural-looking prosthetics that fit securely, allowing you to smile, speak, and chew with complete confidence.

Complete vs. partial dentures: Which is right for you?

We offer tailored tooth replacement solutions based on your unique oral health needs and how many natural teeth you have remaining:

  • Complete Dentures: Designed for patients who are missing an entire arch of teeth (either the upper, lower, or both). They rest securely on your gums and restore the full function and aesthetic harmony of your smile.
  • Partial Dentures: Ideal if you still have several healthy natural teeth remaining. A partial denture fills the gaps left by missing teeth, typically attaching to your natural teeth with discreet, comfortable clasps. This immediately improves chewing and prevents your remaining teeth from shifting out of alignment.

The benefits of modern dentures

Today's prosthetics are crafted from advanced, lightweight materials that are far more comfortable and natural-looking than those of the past.

  • Custom Aesthetics: We carefully select the shape, size, and shade of the prosthetic teeth to match your natural appearance or give you the bright, refreshed smile you’ve always wanted.
  • Facial Support: Replacing missing teeth supports your cheeks and lips, preventing the sunken facial appearance that often accompanies tooth loss.
  • Improved Digestion: Being able to thoroughly chew your food is the first and most important step in healthy digestion.
  • Affordability: Removable dentures are often one of the most cost-effective ways to replace multiple missing teeth at once.

The denture creation process

Crafting a beautifully fitting denture requires a precise, step-by-step approach at our Stittsville clinic:

  1. Consultation and Impressions: We evaluate your oral health and take highly accurate digital or physical impressions of your gums (and remaining teeth, if applicable). If any extracteions are needed prior to placement, we will manage those gently and comfortably.
  2. Bite Registration and Wax Try-In: We measure how your upper and lower jaws meet to ensure a comfortable bite. We then create a wax mockup for you to try on. This allows us to check the fit, appearance, and tooth colour before the final denture is cast.
  3. Final Delivery and Adjustments: Once your custom prosthetic is fabricated by our trusted dental laboratory, you will return to our office. We will place the denture, check the final fit, and make any necessary micro-adjustments so it rests perfectly without slipping or causing sore spots.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How do I care for my dentures?

Remove and gently brush your dentures daily using a soft-bristled brush and a non-abrasive denture cleanser (regular toothpaste can scratch the acrylic). When you are not wearing them, keep them soaking in water or a denture solution overnight to prevent the material from drying out and losing its custom shape.

Will my dentures slip when I talk or eat?

A properly fitted new denture should sit securely on your gums. However, because your jawbone naturally changes shape over time after tooth loss, your dentures may eventually begin to feel loose. If this happens, bring them to our West Ottawa clinic for a quick professional "reline" to restore a snug, comfortable fit.

Can I secure my dentures with dental implants?

Yes. For the ultimate security and long-term bone preservation, we can coordinate with local specialists to place dental implants that your denture can snap firmly onto. This is known as an implant-supported overdenture and completely eliminates the need for messy dental adhesives.

faq

Asked and answered.

The things people ask on the phone before they book — written out properly, so you don't have to ask them.

Are you accepting new patients?

Yes — new patients of every age are welcome, and we're taking bookings now. Call (613) 836-1333 or email the office and we'll find you a time, usually within the same week.

What should I bring to my first visit?

  • Your insurance details, if you have coverage
  • A list of any medications and supplements you take
  • Recent x-rays from a previous dentist, if you can get them sent over
  • Anything you've been worrying about, written down — people forget once they're in the chair

If you don't have any of it, come anyway. We'll sort it out from here.

How long does a first appointment take?

Plan for about an hour. That covers a full exam, any x-rays we need, a periodontal check, an oral cancer screening, and time to actually talk through what we found. If a cleaning fits the same day, we'll do it — otherwise we'll book it close by.

Do you see children?

We do, and we're glad to book families together. A first visit for a young child is short and mostly about them getting comfortable in the room — counting teeth, looking at the tools, sitting in the chair. Nothing happens that we haven't explained to them first.

Do you accept my insurance?

We accept most traditional insurance plans — call the office and we'll confirm yours specifically. Our staff verifies your coverage, submits pre-estimates where it's useful to know the number in advance, and files your claims so you're reimbursed. One thing worth understanding: your policy is a contract between you and your insurer, not between us and them. We'll do everything we can to maximise what you get back, but the terms are theirs.

Will I know the cost before treatment starts?

Always. You get the options and the costs in writing, with your insurance portion estimated, before anything begins. If we find something unexpected mid-treatment, we stop and talk to you rather than carrying on and adding it to the bill.

How can I pay?

Cheque, cash, or major credit cards. You can also call the office to make a payment or to talk through your options if the timing is difficult — it's a conversation we have often and there's no awkwardness in it.

What if I have no insurance at all?

You're just as welcome. We'll give you the full cost up front and, where there's more than one clinically sound way to treat something, we'll tell you what each one costs and let you decide. Plenty of our patients pay out of pocket.
