Fillings

Stop cavities in their tracks and restore your tooth's natural strength with beautifully blended composite fillings. Our Stittsville dental team provides comfortable, metal-free restorations that protect your oral health while keeping your smile bright and completely natural.

Seamless, strong, and natural-looking repairs

When plaque and bacteria wear away your tooth enamel, a cavity forms. If left untreated, this decay can spread deeper into the tooth, leading to severe pain and the need for more complex treatments like custom crowns or even extractions. A dental filling is a simple, highly effective way to halt this decay, restore the tooth's structural integrity, and prevent future infection.

At Luminara Dental, we use advanced composite resin (tooth-colored) fillings to seamlessly repair your teeth, ensuring your restoration is virtually invisible.

Why choose composite resin fillings?

We proudly offer modern, metal-free fillings to our patients across Stittsville, Kanata, and West Ottawa because they provide several distinct advantages over older materials:

  • Natural aesthetics: The resin material is carefully shade-matched to your exact tooth color, making the filling undetectable when you laugh or speak.
  • Conservative treatment: Composite resin bonds chemically directly to the tooth structure. This means we do not have to drill away as much healthy enamel to secure the filling as we would with traditional silver amalgam.
  • Durable and strong: Once cured, the composite material is highly resilient and designed to withstand the daily forces of chewing and biting.
  • Mercury-free: Our composite fillings are 100% free of mercury and metals, providing a safe and biocompatible solution for your smile.

The filling process: Fast and comfortable

Treating a cavity at our Stittsville clinic is a quick, routine procedure designed entirely around your comfort:

  1. Gentle Numbing: We apply a highly effective local anesthetic to ensure the tooth and surrounding gums are completely numb before we begin.
  2. Decay Removal: We carefully and precisely remove the decayed portion of the tooth, leaving as much of your healthy tooth structure intact as possible.
  3. Placement and Bonding: The tooth-colored composite resin is applied in layers, filling the cleaned-out space perfectly.
  4. Curing and Polishing: We use a specialized UV light to instantly harden the resin. Finally, we shape and polish the filling so it feels perfectly smooth against your tongue and aligns seamlessly with your natural bite.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Does getting a filling hurt?

Not at all. We ensure your tooth is profoundly numb before the procedure begins. You will feel some pressure and hear the sounds of our instruments, but you will not feel any pain. If you experience dental anxiety, please let us know—our team excels at providing a calming, stress-free environment.

Can I eat immediately after getting a filling?

Because composite fillings are instantly hardened with our specialized curing light, you can technically chew on them right away. However, we strongly recommend waiting until the local anesthesia has completely worn off (usually a few hours) before eating to prevent accidentally biting your lip, cheek, or tongue while they are still numb.

Can I replace my old silver fillings?

Yes. Many patients choose to replace their older, dark silver amalgam fillings for cosmetic reasons, or because the old fillings have begun to leak or crack over time. We can safely remove your old metal fillings and replace them with natural-looking composite resin to instantly brighten and strengthen your smile.

faq

Asked and answered.

The things people ask on the phone before they book — written out properly, so you don't have to ask them.

Are you accepting new patients?

Yes — new patients of every age are welcome, and we're taking bookings now. Call (613) 836-1333 or email the office and we'll find you a time, usually within the same week.

What should I bring to my first visit?

  • Your insurance details, if you have coverage
  • A list of any medications and supplements you take
  • Recent x-rays from a previous dentist, if you can get them sent over
  • Anything you've been worrying about, written down — people forget once they're in the chair

If you don't have any of it, come anyway. We'll sort it out from here.

How long does a first appointment take?

Plan for about an hour. That covers a full exam, any x-rays we need, a periodontal check, an oral cancer screening, and time to actually talk through what we found. If a cleaning fits the same day, we'll do it — otherwise we'll book it close by.

Do you see children?

We do, and we're glad to book families together. A first visit for a young child is short and mostly about them getting comfortable in the room — counting teeth, looking at the tools, sitting in the chair. Nothing happens that we haven't explained to them first.

Do you accept my insurance?

We accept most traditional insurance plans — call the office and we'll confirm yours specifically. Our staff verifies your coverage, submits pre-estimates where it's useful to know the number in advance, and files your claims so you're reimbursed. One thing worth understanding: your policy is a contract between you and your insurer, not between us and them. We'll do everything we can to maximise what you get back, but the terms are theirs.

Will I know the cost before treatment starts?

Always. You get the options and the costs in writing, with your insurance portion estimated, before anything begins. If we find something unexpected mid-treatment, we stop and talk to you rather than carrying on and adding it to the bill.

How can I pay?

Cheque, cash, or major credit cards. You can also call the office to make a payment or to talk through your options if the timing is difficult — it's a conversation we have often and there's no awkwardness in it.

What if I have no insurance at all?

You're just as welcome. We'll give you the full cost up front and, where there's more than one clinically sound way to treat something, we'll tell you what each one costs and let you decide. Plenty of our patients pay out of pocket.
